“You must enter in
To the small silences between
The leaves,
You must take your time
And touch the very peace
They issue from.”

“To Look at Anything” by John Moffitt, from Teaching with Fire: Poetry That Sustains the Courage to Teach, edited by Sam M. Intrator and Megan Scribner. © Jossey-Bass, 2003.

I’ve loved this poem since I was a kid. My mom had a book of poetry on her bookcase that I read out of frequently. Love that it’s connected to this lovely painting!
